资源简介:
Research background: This exhibition was a survey of 25 years of my Superfiction projects. All of my work is an additive project and as such was presented in a significantly different way from previous iterations, making it a stand-alone 2012 project. None of the work has previously claimed RMIT research pointspoints. This work has conceptual and material parallels with a range of contemporary and modern artiists, from Marcel Duchamp and Marcel Broodthaers through to Janet Cardiff and Guillaume Bijl. A chapter on this project will be launched in a book on May 15, 2014 Research significance: This project builds on addditive research funded by a variety of grants and awards, including an Australia Council New Media grant of $25,000 (2001) and an Arts Victoria grant of $10,000 (2000).This creative work was featured by Anabelle Lacroix in "The Maximilian" July-November 2012 (four pages) in an essay titled 'Rendering Something Visible' She writes"Walter Benjamin reminds us that "art has the duty to construct". Duchamp, Broodthaers, and Hill each present a particular critical engagement with artworks in relation to the structures that surround them. Looking closely at their practice we find poetry and cynicism as common threads, and perhaps these principals act as proposals for fine suggestions of a curatorial approach." Research Contribution: This research has contributed significantly to new knowledge in the gap between contemporary art and literary fiction. It examines the nature of identity and authenticity through testing devices that foreground sophisticated methodological falsificationism. This includes the creation of fictional characters and the integration of Pop-up projects within the conventional gallery setting. Through posing the question "What happens when painting escapes from the canvas and fiction escapes from the pages of the novel?" it takes the device of the Superfiction into new and hitherto untested realms.
