I captured 216 BTPDs in March thru April 1975, but several of these BTPDs died before May 1975. So that's why I use colony density of 30 BTPDs per hectare instead of 216/6.60 = 32.73 BTPDs per hectare For GPDs in 2018, I use area of the study colony calculated from the "Overview map" = 3.138 hectares I use NO DATA or GPDs in 2013 because of the Thompson Ridge Fire I use NO DATA for GPDs in 1995 because of plague that started in April 1995. Areas for WTPDs and VCC GPDs were calculated by David McCray of Valles Caldera Nat Park. On 18 Sept 2019, I incorporate information from GPD-219 in 2015. Including GPD-219 in 2015 changes the ward size from 98 to 99, and the ward density from 21.97 to 22.20. Including GPD-219 in 2015 changes the number of parturient females from 43 to 44. On 23 Sept 2019, I add 143 to 7's clan in 2018. This change means the new ward size is now 209, and the new ward density is now 66.60. The new number of single cases of infanticide parturient female is now 0.245, and the new number of parturient females is 94 (23/94). On 25 Sept 2019, I make the following changes for UPDs: (1) "All fems" is now for the total number of females each year that we could see from our towers. "All fems" includes females that DID wean a litter and females that DID NOT wean a litter. "Adult and yearling females" = all UPD females THAT WE COULD SEE from our towers On 26 September 2019, I check this file TWO TIMES. Good to go. On 30 Sept 2019, I have just discovered that UPD female 4SRS in 2000 belongs to the 48a clan. This changes colony size in May 2000 to 184, and colony size in March 2000 to 207. I have added 4SRS to this file, but have NOT added her to the statistical analyses UPD-4SRS did not wean a litter in 2000, and evidently did not give birth (TDF on 30 May 2000). I have added 4SRS to this file, but have NOT added her to the statistical analyses I have added 4SRS to this file, but have NOT added her to the statistical analyses On 14 March 2020, I make several additional changes, as follows: On 30 March 2020, I change BTPD ward size in MAY 1975 from 2016 to 198. On 30 March 2020, I make several changes for ward sizes and densities for UPDs and GPDs. These changes result from new, revised counts for ward sizes and what I could see in different years. On 30 March 2020, I change GPD ward size in 1994 from 179 to 176--from ward size count. On 25 June, I change GPD ward size in 1994 t0 174--after deleting 91 and BB6 I cannot find how I determined ward sizes for GPDs from 1989 through 1995. I remember that I considered GPDS that assistants and I could actually SEE from out towers, but I cannot find the details for my counts. On 07 April 2020, for 2009 I change WTPD ward size to 60 (from 59) and WTPD ward density to 6.232 (from 6.128). I assume this trivial change does not affect any statistics or P-values. On 13 April 2020, I make TWO changes to GPDs from new estimates of ward sizes for several years I assume my earlier counts for PEFO are accurate, because they are for ONLY THOSE AREAS THAT WE COULD CAREFULLY WATCH. All changes to GPD colony sizes and colony densities on 13 April 2020 are small--almost trivial On 23 April 2020, I change WTPD colony size in 2011 from 51 to 49, and I change colony density in 2011 from 5.297 to 5.089. On 23 April 2020, I REPEAT all analyses for colony size vs colony density FOR ALL FOUR SPECIES On 25 June 2020, I change colony size of GPDs at VCC from 126 to 101 (from clan comps) This latter change also affects ward density--change from 40.15 to 32.186 On 25 June 2020, I delete BB6 and 91 from the 31-R19 GPD clan in 1994. This latter change makes GPD ward size = 174 in 1994, and ward density in 1994 = 13.385 On 25 June 2020, I change colony size of GPDs at VCC from 126 to 101 (from clan comps) This latter change also affects ward density--change from 40.15 to 32.186 Ward size = number of adults at yearlings at ward-site in May. Ward area = physical area in hectares that students and I watched every year. These data used for Fig 11.2 in Hoogland 2026. This file ready for longterm storage on 15 Feb 2025. BTPD = black-tailed prairie dog; GPD = Gunnison's prairie dog; UPD = Utah prairie dog; and WTPD = white-tailed prairie dog "Ward" in this file = the study-ward that we observed each year Ward density = ward size / ward area = prairie dogs per hectare Note that ward area was not the same every year For GPDs at Petrified Forest National Park, ward size and ward areas varied because we did not always study the same clans in the same areas every year. For more details about ward sizes and areas occupied, see Chapter 4 and Table 4.1 of Hoogland 2026 Missing data in this EXCEL file are in other files.
