The land types are divided into secondary categories as follows: paddy field, dry land, closed forest land, shrub land, open forest land, other forest land, high-coverage grassland, medium-coverage grassland, low-coverage grassland, river and canal, lake, reservoir and pond, permanent glacier and snow area, tidal flat, beach land, urban land, rural residential area, other construction land, sandy land, Gobi desert, saline-alkali land, marsh, bare land, bare rock and gravel land, and others. For cultivated land, paddy fields and dry lands are further categorized based on landforms into those located in mountainous areas, hilly areas, plain areas, and slopes with a gradient greater than 25 degrees.
