Australian Gallup Polls, Survey 154, Dec. 1, 1961

Topics covered in this survey are minimum age for a driver's licence, means test for old age or invalid pensions, number of migrants to Australia, compulsory retiring age for Members of Parliament, one vs two houses in Federal Parliament, 40-hour week, decimal currency, church attendance and war between Russia and the West. Standard variables are vehicle and telephone ownership, religion, occupation, economic classification, vote intention, occupation, vote at last Federal election, age, sex, social class, education, trade union membership, and relationship of interviewee to interviewer. Additional variables, taken from a reinterview in Survey 155 at a subset of dwellings interviewed in Survey 154, check the Gallup Poll forecast of the recent Federal election. These are satisfaction with election results, actual vote and consistency of voting intention up to the election, vote intention if another election held soon, occupation, economic classification, age and relationship of reinterviewee to person originally interviewed in each dwelling.
