Unraveling Pathway-Specific Isotope Signatures of Methane Production in a Marine Sediment. Methane isotopes and methanogens

The methanogenesis process can proceed via three pathways depending on the substrates and methanogens present in a certain environment. Here, bulk and clumped isotopic analyses were conducted to investigate CH4 production pathways in methane-rich marine sediments. We also analyzed the methanogenic community at the experiment depth with 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing to see the potential active methanogenic pathways present at the time of sampling.
