Artificial intelligence research progress in pelvic floor ultrasound

Pelvic floor ultrasound is used to image the pelvic floor structure and relative spatial anatomical position. The method enables to better represent the functions and positions of pelvic organs for the diagnosis and treatment of various gynecological diseases such as female pelvic floor dysfunction diseases. The emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) on the automatic analysis of medical image data is expected to revolutionize the pelvic floor ultrasound in clinical practice. By efficiently and accurately preprocessing and analyzing images, AI could solve the current problems of conventional pelvic floor ultrasound, such as strong dependence on experience, long time-consuming manual measurement and large human error. The narrative review reports the advances in the AI applied to pelvic floor ultrasound, and thus, the promises for improving the understanding and treatment of female pelvic floor in diseases and pregnancy.
