Microchannel plate (MCP) traveling-wave gated framing cameras are widely used for inertial confinement fusion. However, they suffer from drawbacks such as bulky size and non-single-line-of-sight imaging. To address these limitations, a complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor (CIS) is proposed as an alternative to MCP image converter tubes. Based on a 0.18 µm standard CMOS process, an 8×8 pixel array CIS architecture is designed. An ultrashort shutter pixel circuit together with a dedicated shutter signal control circuit is developed to realize single-shot four-frame imaging. In addition, a correlated dual-sampling circuit based on a single-ended amplifier is employed to effectively suppress noise. Simulation results indicate that the proposed circuit operates properly, and the pixel signal uniformity of the four captured frames exceeds 99%, with a temporal resolution of 100 ps per frame and an inter-frame interval of 300 ps.
