The antidiabetic drug metformin exerts pleiotropic effects on multiple organs including the cardiovascular system. Evidence has shown that low level of metformin improves healthspan and lifespan in male mice, yet its lifespan lengthening effect in females remains elusive. We used RNA sequencing to detail the global programme of gene expression in the hearts of 22-month-old WT female mice with or without metformin treatment.
