Repeat ground photography data collected on Marion Island between 1965 and 2020

This is the repeat ground photography raw data that was used to assess vegetation change on Marion Island between 1965 and 2020. Historical photographs were sourced from Brian Huntley's 1965 fieldwork on the island and Marthan Bester's 1980 fieldwork without gps coordinates. These slides were digitised. The locations of the original photographs were located by Alex Terauds, Steven Chown and Nita Pallet in the field and repeated by Nita Pallet in the 2019/2020 season for the current study. We quantified vegetation change by visually estimating the cover of all plant guilds in each habitat in each photograph, resulting in a paired cover estimate for each plant guild similar to growth form. This was accompanied by an analysis of climate trends and invasive plant species cover changes over the same period.
