资源简介:
This is a replication dataset for the paper "Uyoga, S., Macharia, A.W., Ndila, C.M., Nyutu, G., Shebe, M., Awuondo, K.O., Mturi, N., Peshu, N., Tsofa, B., Scott, J.A.G. and Maitland, K., 2019. The indirect health effects of malaria estimated from health advantages of the sickle cell trait. Nature communications, 10(1), pp.1-7." Most estimates of the burden of malaria are based on its direct impacts; however, its true burden is likely to be greater because of its wider effects on overall health. We present data from 20,574 children < 14 years of age who were admitted to Kilifi County Hospital (KCH) from within the study area covered by the Kilifi Health and Demographic Surveillance System (KHDSS) during the 5-year period between 1st January 2000 and 31st December 2004. The dataset contains baseline demographic, anthropometric and hematological characteristics of these children. 18,864 (92%) potential cases, were genotyped successfully for HbS and were included in the reported analysis.
