The Criminal Law Amendment Act, 1883 (46 Victoria Act No 17) authorised the Supreme Court within six months after a conviction for felony to place the estate of the offender into sequestration. Such estates could be administered by an Official Assignee of Insolvent Estates or another person appointed by the Court. These orders were to be entered into a book retained by the Prothonotary and usual bankruptcy conditions applied. This series records the details of sequestrations as required by the law. It contains the following details: number, name of person convicted, court of conviction, felony of which convicted, date of conviction, judge directing sequestration, date of order, name of official assignee, date of entry in prothonotary’s book. The convicted persons listed in this volume also appear in the indexes to bankruptcy and insolvency cases.
