Genetic Diversity and Demographic History of the Shaggy Soft-Haired Mouse Abrothrix hirta (Cricetidae; Abrotrichini). Abrothrix longipilis

In this contribution we study the geographic variation of the genetic diversity of the sigmodontine rodent Abrothrix hirta. We identify intraspecific lineages in this species, as well as its genetic structure and demographic history based on transcriptome-derived SNPs. We discuss the results to show why undestanding the intraspecific variation is fundamental for unraveling the true conservation status of a species. We discuss the importance of intraspecific lineages for conservation and provide the information for this species that inhabits a biodiversity hotspot in central Chile and that is not currently categorized.
