Spectral and spatial characteristics of the Kookaburra.s northern wing

The TeV source HESS J1420607 is coincident with the Kookaburra.s northern radiowing, and is most probably associated to the pulsar wind nebula (PWN) powered bythe high spindown pulsar PSR J14206048. It is extended along the radiostructure and has a flux of about 0.1 Crab. ASCA observations of the PWN haverevealed a 6. extended structure with a photon spectral index of 1.6 apparentlyinconsistent with the steeper TeV spectrum, which probes lower energy electrons.Here, we propose a deep XMM observation of the PWN of PSR J14206047 to have acomplete multiwavelength determination of its morphology, in particular revealthe compact nebula and the nebula trail, and characterize its pectrum over thewhole nebula extent to check the association with the TeV source. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
