Black queen cell virus (BQCV) is one of the most common and widespread pathogens of honey bees, Apis mellifera. Adult bees infected with the virus remain largely asymptomatic; however, BQCV can induce considerable mortality in the developing queen bee larvae, causing their necrotic carcases to blacken pupal cells. we isolated BQCV from Aedes vexans mosquitoes from Manitoba, Canada, using Illumina sequencing.
