Metagenomic analysis of medical peloids microbiome

Metagenomic characteristic of medical peats.Treatment with the use of peloids has a centuries-old tradition. One of the basic principles of spa treatment is to perform treatments with the use of medical peads.The characterization of the microbial population in peloid deposits is essential for a full understanding of the environment from which the deposits originate and for the identification of microorganisms that may be useful from an economic point of view. Peloids can be a source of: actinomycetes, many of which produce antimicrobial substances use in medicine. They may also exhibit antimicrobial properties against multi-drug resistant pathogens. Some species of bacteria may stimulate plant growth thanks to their nitrogen binding capacity, and therefore can be used in agricultural production, contributing to the reduction of the use of artificial fertilizers. Moreover, there are reports confirming that peloids can influence the skin microbiome, and thus indirectly positively influence the immune system.Main aim of this project was to characterize the peads microflora, which are used for therapeutic treatments, and to identify microorganisms with potential for their further use.
