Higher genome structures, essentially formed by cohesins, are the basis for gene expression in eukaryotes. The function of cohesin complexes in the folding of chromatin fibres and the formation of higher genome structures is insufficiently known at the molecular level in plants. We show that the plant-specific cohesin subunit SYN4 shapes circadian clock gene expression, by modulating intra- and interchromosomal interactions.
