mtDNA Sequencing from case-control cohort of Indian population

Immune cells are known to protect body from various infections and a successful immune response occurs by delicate balance between activation and inhibition of specific signalling pathways of different cells. With expanding knowledge it is observed that the mitochondria play an important role in regulating these signals and ultimately decides a cells fate. Since mitochondria is a hub for cellular metabolism most of its function can be attributed to various mitochondrial genes encoded by mitochondrial genome. Apart from that upon activation immune cells undergo sudden drift from metabolic quiescent catabolic form to highly active metabolically anabolic form. Mitochondrial genome are now proposed as an important player in decision making process when cell receives immunological signal and control innate and adaptive immune responses. Also mitochondrial dysfunction is linked to various diseases and studies have identified increased production of inflammatory mediators upon dysfunction of mitochondria caused by any perturbation or changes in mitochondrial genome.
