This repository contains data used in the Cliff et al. (2020) Nature Geoscience paper entitled "Glacial deep ocean deoxygenation driven by biologically-mediated air-sea disequilibrium". All results described in the paper can be recreated from these data.
PIC_O2_experiments.mat contains data for the preindustrial (PIC) set of experiments.
LGM_x10SO_O2_experiments.mat contains data for the LGM set of experiments.
Each file contains 3-D, annual mean fields of oxygen and other variables for the 9 experiments discussed in the paper (an equilibrium run plus the final steady state solutions for 8 perturbation runs). The fields are stored as cell arrays of length 9, with the first element containing the equilibrium solution and the subsequent 8 the perturbation runs. The variable 'experiments' is a cell array of length 9 whose elements are strings describing the corresponding experiments. The following fields are provided (all in units of [mol/m^3]):
O2: Dissolved oxygen
O2pre: Preformed oxygen
O2eq: Preformed solubility equilibrium oxygen
O2_phy: Dissolved oxygen from the physics-only experiments
O2pre_phy: Preformed oxygen from the physics-only experiments
O2eq_phy: Preformed solubility equilibrium oxygen from the physics-only experiments
PO4: Dissolved inorganic phosphate
PO4pre: Preformed phosphate
PO4_phy: Dissolved inorganic phosphate from the physics-only experiments
PO4pre_phy: Preformed phosphate from the physics-only experiments
AOU: Apparent Oxygen Utilization
Csoft: Respired carbon
In addition, the following variables are provided:
RCO: carbon to oxygen Redfield ratio
RCP: carbon to phosphorus Redfield ratio
RPO: phosphorus to oxygen Redfield ratio
x: longitude ([degrees east])
y: latitude ([degrees north])
z: depth ([m])
dv: volume of grid boxes ([m^3])
