Administration of antibiotics is the most commonly used method to treat and prevent bacterial infections in humans and livestock. However, it loses effectiveness with the development of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Therefore, finding new antimicrobials to combat the rising rate of AMR is crucial. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have recently received increasing attention due to their broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, rapid killing activity, low toxicity, and cell selectivity. The aim of this project is to investigate the antimicrobial activities of our library of novel AMPs against multidrug-resistant bacteria. These studies include determining the whole genome sequence and antibiotic resistance profile of test bacteria.
