The soil microbiome as an indicator of function across Europe

Here, we investigated the relationship between the soil microbiome (i.e., the relative abundance of main bacterial and fungal taxa) and multifunctionality (i.e., soil aggregation, enzymatic activities, primary productivity, and soil basal respiration) across 500 soils from 27 European countries covering contrasting land-use types (i.e., croplands, grasslands, and woodlands) and climatic-edaphic conditions.
