This study evaluated the relative abundance of the intestinal microbial composition in duodenum, jejunum, ilium, and cecum of broiler chicken (Cobb500) raised in an open-sided house from 0-35 days of age. Using 16S rDNA-based analysis the study showed that the microbial composition and abundance in the four intestinal segments varies, implying that variable intestinal microbial compositions may influence intestinal function.
