Cellulase gene shuffling in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Two yeast strains with nine cellulase expression constructs representing different enzymes were allowed to undergo mating and meiosis to generate strains with shuffled constructs. These progeny were screened based on growth with pretreated corn stover in the presence of a small amount of a commercial cellulase cocktail. The two best performers in the study and the two parental strains were sequenced to identify unintended mutations that could affect the interpretation of the results on combined cellulase activity.
