Investigation of the opportunities for information services (IS) to influence the protection of state-owned enterprises’ (SOE) sensitive information

This study aimed to investigate the opportunities for information services (IS) to influence the protection of state-owned enterprises’ (SOE) sensitive information. The study also aimed to provide recommendations on how SOEs can improve their information protection capabilities by employing a qualitative methodology.Semi-structured interviews were conducted using purposive sampling to select IS staff and IT managers. Qualitative data was analysed through thematic analysis to identify themes. The findings are used to provide recommendations that SOEs could implement to continuously protect their information against unauthorised access. Future research recommendations include an extension of the study to include more SOEs, a new target group by involving more IS staff, and exploring if humans are still the causes of data breaches.
