兴隆基地的2.16米光学天文望远镜是由北京天文台、南京天文仪器厂、中国科学院自动化研究所等单位历时15年联合攻关协作研制成功的,1989年安装于兴隆基地并投入使用,荣获国家科技进步一等奖。它堪称我国自力更生研制大型精密设备的标志,被誉为中国天文学发展史上一个里程碑,是我国自行研制的、曾经是国内最大、也是远东最大的光学望远镜。2.16望远镜的有效口径为2.16米,具有卡塞格林焦点和折轴焦点,两个焦点转换极为方便,仅需要1分钟,这在世界上是个创举。216望远镜装备了卡塞格林低色散光谱仪、BFOSC暗天体摄谱成像仪、多通道高速光度计和HRS高色散光谱仪(取代折轴高色散光谱仪),能够开展多种天文课题的观测研究,是一台功能完备的通用型天文望远镜。
The 2.16-meter optical astronomical telescope at Xinglong Astronomical Base was jointly developed and successfully completed through 15 years of collaborative key technical research by institutions including the Beijing Astronomical Observatory, Nanjing Astronomical Instrument Factory, and the Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Installed and put into operational use at Xinglong Astronomical Base in 1989, it was awarded the First Class Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. It is a symbol of China's independent and self-reliant development of large-scale precision equipment, hailed as a milestone in the history of China's astronomical development, and was the largest optical telescope independently developed in China as well as the largest such telescope in the Far East at the time of its commissioning. The telescope has an effective aperture of 2.16 meters, and is equipped with both Cassegrain and coudé foci; the switching between the two foci is extremely convenient, taking only one minute, which represents a world-first innovation. The 2.16-meter telescope is equipped with a Cassegrain low-dispersion spectrograph, BFOSC faint object spectrograph and imager, multi-channel high-speed photometer, and HRS high-dispersion spectrograph (replacing the original coudé high-dispersion spectrograph), and can conduct observational research on a variety of astronomical topics, making it a fully functional general-purpose astronomical telescope.
