These volumes contain copies of letters sent by the Assistant Gold Commissioner stationed at Rocky River near Armidale. Most of the correspondence is directed to the Chief Commissioner of the Northern Gold District at Nundle and is concerned with reports upon the state of the Rocky River Gold Field, bushranger attacks, the survey of the gold fields, forwarding remittances from the issue of miners' rights; as well there are letters to the Auditor General submitting accounts and requisitions for supplies to the Government Printer. Letters to private individuals are mainly concerned with the notification of results of applications for claims and water rights, claims to rewards for the discovery of new gold fields, and mining affairs generally.
