Metagenomic sequencing of participants from GNHS study

Guangzhou Nutrition and Health Study (GNHS) is a community-based prospective cohort study in southern China. GNHS is started and supervised by Prof Yu-ming Chen at Sun Yat-sen University, who has been the PI for this study since 2008. The primary aim of the study was to investigate the determinants and risk factors of osteoporosis and cardiometabolic diseases among middle-aged and elderly individuals. About 4,048 apparently healthy residents, living in Guangzhou city for at least 5 years, aged 40-80 years, were recruited between 2008 and 2013. Participants were invited to visit the School of Public Health at Sun Yat-sen University every three years since 2008. At each visit, face-to-face interviews, specimen collection, anthropometric measurements, DXA scanning, ultrasonography evaluation were conducted. The study was registered at clinicaltrials.gov (NCT03179657).
