In a comprehensive feeding trial incorporating 15 different feed treatments (seaweed and aquafeed supplements), we demonstrate that supplementation of diets has subtle and variable but important impacts on the composition of microbiomes in the hindguts of these fish. For example, supplementation of diets with seaweeds can reduce the abundance of potentially pathogenic bacteria in the fish GI tracts, relative to controls.
