Indoor Environmental Quality Management in Learning Spaces through Predictive Models of Students' Physical and Emotional Well-Being - Experimental Dataset
收藏资源简介:
This repository provides a comprehensive dataset and supporting materials for analyzing the relationship between classroom conditions and students’ physical and emotional well-being. It was developed as part of the study “Indoor Environmental Quality Management in Learning Spaces through Predictive Models of Students’ Physical and Emotional Well-Being” and is intended to support research reproducibility, transparency, and reuse. Specifically, this repository contains: 📁 Main Dataset IEQ and Students’ Well-Being Dataset.xlsx: A structured dataset with 959 student-session samples. Each record represents a single student response associated with a specific classroom and a two-hour lecture session, where subjective evaluations are aligned with the environmental conditions experienced during that same period. Each sample includes: 🔹 Temporal and contextual variables Date: Indicates the specific day when the data sample (survey) was collected. Start Time: Beginning of the two-hour lecture session. End Time: End of the two-hour lecture session. Classroom: Identifier of the classroom where the data were collected. Group: Indicates whether the session corresponds to the morning or afternoon group. Orientation: Cardinal orientation of the classroom (e.g., North, South-East). Degrees: Classroom orientation expressed in degrees. Sensor: Identifier of the sensor mote used to collect indoor environmental data. Seat: Student’s seating position during the lecture session. 🔹 Classroom physical state conditions Lights Off: Indicates whether classroom lights were turned off (binary variable). Curtains Open: Indicates whether curtains/blinds were open or closed. Air Conditioning On: Indicates whether the air conditioning system was active. Heating On: Indicates whether the heating system was active. Windows Open: Indicates whether windows were open (closed, partially open, or fully open). 🔹 Subjective perception variables (Likert scale: 1–5) Lighting Perception: Student’s perception of lighting adequacy. Noise: Perceived noise level in the classroom. Temperature Perception: Student’s perception of thermal comfort. Environment Perception: Perception of whether the environment felt “heavy” or uncomfortable. Classroom Occupancy: Perceived level of occupancy or crowding. Overall Comfort: Student’s overall comfort perception during the session. Emotional Well-Being: Self-reported emotional state during the session. Physical Well-Being: Self-reported physical state during the session. 🔹 Outdoor environmental conditions Outdoor Temperature (Start / Midpoint / End): Temperature values recorded at the beginning, midpoint, and end of the session. Outdoor Humidity (Start / Midpoint / End): Relative humidity values recorded at the same time points. 🔹 Indoor environmental conditions (aggregated over the two-hour session) Indoor Temperature (Min / Max / Average): Minimum, maximum, and average values recorded. Indoor Temperature (Q1 / Median / Q3): First quartile, median, and third quartile. Indoor Illuminance Indoor Illuminance (Min / Max / Average): Minimum, maximum, and average light levels. Indoor Illuminance (Q1 / Median / Q3): Quartile-based descriptors. Indoor Humidity Indoor Humidity (Min / Max / Average): Minimum, maximum, and average relative humidity. Indoor Humidity (Q1 / Median / Q3): Quartile-based descriptors. The dataset was collected through a real-world monitoring campaign conducted over five months (November–March, academic year 2023–2024) in two university classrooms. Indoor environmental conditions were continuously recorded using an IoT-based sensor network, while outdoor data were obtained from a nearby weather station. In parallel, students completed structured surveys after each two-hour lecture session, allowing subjective perceptions to be aligned with the environmental conditions experienced during that same period. 🧾 Survey Instrument Well-Being Survey Template.pdf: The questionnaire used to collect students’ subjective responses, including: Perceived environmental quality (lighting, noise, temperature) Classroom conditions (windows, HVAC, lighting systems) Self-reported physical and emotional well-being 🎓 Case Study Presentation Well-Being Case Study Presentation.pdf: A presentation used during in-class sessions to introduce the study to students. It explains the objectives, methodology, and participation procedure, ensuring that participants were informed about the purpose of the study and the use of their data prior to taking part.
