There returns were prepared by the Deputy Clerks of the Peace at the relevant court and forwarded to the Clerk of the Peace. Each return is as follows. The name of the Court is written at the top of each return. The following details are recorded: name of prisoner, date of conviction, offence, verdict, sentence and communication or alternation recommended by the Court, Governor’s decision and the name of the Judge presiding over the respective Courts of Quarter Sessions in New South Wales.Pages are loose and un-numbered and there is no evidence of the original order. The series does not contain an index.
