NC/Nga mice spontaneously develop atopic dermatitis (AD)-like skin symptoms when raised under conventional husbandry conditions but not when housed under specific pathogen-free (SPF) conditions. Similar to humans with AD, who are more sensitive to HDM than are non-allergic subjects, HDM exposure of NC/Nga mice under SPF conditions induces more severe dermatitis and prolonged increases in serum IgE titer than those in other mouse strains (e.g., ICR, C57BL/6, and BALB/c). To clarify the mechanism of the hypersensitivity to HDM, NC/Nga mouse genome was analyzed by exome sequencing.
