In the present study, a comprehensive hydrobiogeochemical investigation was conducted in the As-affected aquifers of middle Yangtze River to identify the process of arsenic biomethylation in shallow groundwater. The high concentration methylated As mainly distributed in aquifers near the meander of the middle Yangtze River, which is related to the microbially mediated degradation of carbon sources and redox condition.
