Effects of Lactobacillus reuteri Intervention on Gut Microbiota in Suckling Piglets

This study investigated the effects of early supplementation with Lactobacillus reuteri in suckling piglets. Newborn piglets received Lactobacillus reuteri injections at 3 or 7 days postnatal. Results indicate that supplementation with this probiotic reshaped the intestinal microbiota structure by amplifying beneficial Lactobacillus species and suppressing potential pathogens. This provided comprehensive health benefits for suckling piglets, supporting its potential application in swine production as a practical strategy to enhance early stress resistance and mitigate weaning-related diseases.
