The Pacific Islands Region (PIR), under the stewardship of the Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC), encompasses a substantial portion of the tropical and subtropical Pacific. Most of the PIR is within the pelagic domain, located in remote, difficult-to-access regions. Understanding the sensitivity of PIR ecosystems to climate variability and change is essential for conservation and resource management, but the vastness and remoteness of the region pose challenges to traditional survey methods.
