The plastic polymer polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is hydrolysed to form two monomer subunits, terephthalic acid (TA) and ethylene glycol (EG). In this project, we are investigating environmental microorganisms capable of using TA and EG as a sole carbon source to be implemented in the degradation of PET in the circular plastics economy.
