Partitions are key elements in building design and can significantly influence cross-ventilation performance. While this influence is recognized, there remains limited understanding of how different physical characteristics of partition design affect it. A review of the existing studies reveals that there is a prevailing tendency to oversimplify or neglect their role when analyzing cross ventilation in generic buildings. To address this gap, this paper presents a series of validated coupled 3D steady RANS ($SST-K\omega$) simulations exploring the influence of partition design variations in an isolated generic building. The analysis compares a non-partitioned case with scenarios incorporating a central partition, variations in partition location, internal door size and position, and different window configurations. The results demonstrate how partitions affect overall airflow rates, air velocity and vena contracta formation, as well as stagnant zones at the buildings central plane. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of how internal partitions can be strategically designed to enhance the efficiency of natural cross ventilation.
