This series records payments for contracts for roads and bridges kept by the Bourke District Office of the Department of Public Works.The information recorded includes: a description of the contract; contractor's name; sureties; date bond signed; bulk sum (in pounds, shillings and pence); time contract expires; and the contractor's schedule, incluidng description, quality, unit, rate (in pounds, shilling and pence), extras authorised, bulk sum as per tender, payments on account, deductions in contract, date and number (in pounds, shilling and pence), and total payments.Examples of works undertaken include construction of bridges over the Bogan River and Cuffes Creek, bridge approaches, clearing roads from Bourke to Hungerford, forming streets in Brewarrina, and handgears on a timber punt for Darling Point. There is reference to completion of the Warrego Bridge and flood waters in 1895.On page 51 there is a loose copy of the Treasury Regulations to be followed by Public Officers in originally published in the NSW Government Gazette No.78, 5 February 1892, pp.989-994.The volume has only been completed up to page 75 with the rest of the volume left blank. There is an index at the front of the volume.
