Its closest distance to Corsica in the north is 12 km, 191 km to the African continent in the south, and 286 km to Sicily in its southeast. Administratively, Sardinia falls under the Sardinia Region of Italy, whose capital is Cagliari situated in the southern part of the island. The geographical coordinates of Sardinia range from 38°51′50″N to 41°15′33″N and 8°7′50″E to 9°49′43″E. The island has an approximately rectangular shape, with a north-south length of 267 km and an east-west width of 145 km. The area of Sardinia calculated using the Albers projection is 23,767.95 km², while the coastline length of the island calculated via the Lambert projection is 1,912.23 km.
