Severe prolonged drought favours stress-tolerant microbes in dryland soils

The study was conducted over three years in arid and semi-arid regions of Australia to assess the belowground effects of altered rainfall regimes. we found that The microbial communities showed significant variations between the semi-arid and arid sites and over the years. The findings provide a better understanding of microbial responses to predicted increases in rainfall variability and the impact on the functioning of semi-arid and arid ecosystems.
