Dissolved major element concentration data from the Black Sea collected during the 2013 Dutch GEOTRACES GA04-N cruise (RV Pelagia, 64PE373)

This dataset presents dissolved major element to Na ratios (Li/Na, K/Na, Mg/Na, Ca/Na and Sr/Na) and salinity-normalized concentrations for seawater samples collected in the Black Sea in July 2013 during R/V Pelagia cruise 64PE373, as part of the Dutch GEOTRACES GA04-N transect. Samples were collected using a trace-metal-clean CTD system, filtered through 0.2 µm filter cartridges, stored in acid-cleaned low-density polyethylene bottles, and acidified with ultrapure HCl. Major elements were analyzed as ratios to Na by sample-standard bracketing using an Agilent Technologies Varian 720 ICP-OES. Calibration and consistency standards were prepared from different dilutions of an IAPSO seawater salinity standard (batch P157). Conversion from element-to-Na ratios to element concentrations assumes a Na concentration of 468.46 mmol kg−1 at salinity 35 and a constant Na-to-salinity ratio. Salinity-normalized concentrations were calculated for both salinity 35 and salinity 21, with the latter corresponding to the average salinity of the Black Sea.
