16S rRNA gene sequencing data of 6 types of plastics (HDPE, LDPE, PVC, PS, PP and textile polyester), wood and surrounding seawater. The plastics are wood were submerged in a marina in North Haven, South Australia for a period of one month. The samples include the baseline (T=0), and samples that were submerged for 1, 2, 3 and 4 weeks and subsequent water samples that were acquired during sample collection weekly.
