The hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) axis is a key pathway for renal self-protection mechanisms under hypoxia, and VEGF is a critical stimulus for neovascularization. microRNAs (miRNAs) participate in pathological processes of kidney injury and mediate the expression of VEGF. The mechanism by which miRNA-mediated interactions contribute to kidney injury remains unclear, and the relationship between miRNAs and VEGF remains to be elucidated.
