The project aims to sequence the whole genome of Corynebacterium ulcerans isolated from human skin wound and containing the diphtheria-toxin (DT) gene. DT is encoded by the phage-located tox gene. However, according to automatic annotation of the whole genome of isolate LSPQ-04228, using Prokka software, we found that this virulence gene tox is not located on a complete prophage as usually described in C. diphtheriae strains that produce DT. Our study show a novel organisation of the genetic structure surrounding the DT gene and is then very interesting from an epidemiological point of view as well as from the clinical relevance of this isolate.
