Replication Data for: Football Fandom in Egypt

This Dataverse is a curated corpus of 378 Egypt Independent articles that discuss Egyptian football “Ultras,” from 2009 to 2020. Articles were harvested by scraping 39 search‑result pages (nine results each) returned for the query “ultras+,” then excluding items with fewer than 20 characters of main text or failed parses. The release—licensed under MIT—comes as a single CSV file, EgyptIndependentUltrasTexts.csv, whose rows supply the publication date (YYYY‑MM‑DD), the full article URL, and the UTF‑8–encoded main‑body text (whitespace collapsed, non‑ASCII characters normalized). The collection supports research on football fandom, sports media, and contemporary Egyptian civil society, and complements Connor T. Jerzak’s chapter “Football fandom in Egypt” in Routledge Handbook of Sport in the Middle East (Routledge 2022, pp. 196–207).
