The Congaree River and Floodplain Measurements This Dataset is related to Congaree River fluvial system. There are riverbed substrate (bedrock) measurements using a sub-bottom profiler (Stratabox_HD) and GPS measurements that are presented in bed layer folder. Then, there are floodplain and riverbed sediment size and sedimentation rate measurements (from 2019 to 2023) that are presented in Sediment folder. Bed layer folder There are files (meausred by sub bottom profiler) that presents the riverbed layers. Bed layer measurements are presented in different (.odc) files and the measured water depth for each (.odc) file is presented in (.CSV) files with same name. The riverbed and bedrock layer is digitized from these meaurments and the result of it is presented in Bedrock excel file. In the Bedrock excel file, the riverbed and sublayer (bedrock) longitudinal profile (under "profile-RiverBed" and "profile-Bedrock" tabs), riverbed and bedrock elevation measurements versus different coordinates (under "Coordinates&Riverbed elevation" and "Coordinates&bedrock elevation", respectively) and the GPS measurements (coordinates and elevation - under GPS tab) are provided. Sediment folder In the Sediment characteristics excel file, you can find the sediment size distribution along the Congaree River and across the floodplain and sedimentation rate in different location of the Congaree River floodplain. There is an information tab in this file that shares the sampling points name and their coordinates and where they are located (on the riverbed or floodplain). In Sand grain size distribution tab, there are several sand grain size distributions from samples that are collected in different years (from 2019 to 2023 that are divided by blue row in the file) across the floodplain and along the river (floodplain deposit and riverbed grab sample). In Sedimentation rate tab, there are sedimentation rate that are measured annually by passive sediment sampler (sediment tiles). There are 3 years of sedimentation rate measurements. In mean grain diameter tab, there are geometric mean grain diameter of coarse portion of samples (grains that have diameter more than 0.075 mm) under the name of “dg_sand” and year that are measured. And there is geometric mean grain diameter of fine portion of samples (grains that have diameter less than 0.075 mm) under the name of “dg_mud” and year that are measured. In sand fraction tab, there are fraction of sand in the collected sediments across this floodplain. *n/a in this file means there was no sediment data collected in this location.*
