The purpose of this study was to investigate the most needed English skills that students wanted to improve and the problems that they had when they used English to communicate. The participants in this study were 35 Matthayom 1 students in a government school in Bangkok. They all studied a subject called Reading and Writing 2 (EN20202) in the second semester of the academic year 2020. The data was collected using a questionnaire with a five-point Likert scale. The findings of the study showed that speaking skill was the most needed skill that the student wanted to improve the most. Read aloud stories, tales, short poems, and paragraphs accurately according to reading principles was the most needed aspect of speaking skill. In terms of problems, the finding revealed that the students had problems with speaking skill the most when they use English language to communicate. The most problematic aspect of Speak to summarize the main idea by analyzing stories or incidents. The findings of this study will be beneficial and can be a guideline for English language teachers for planning English courses and preparing related materials.
