Images from an Archaeological Watching Brief at Castle Mill Stream Wall, St Peter's College, Oxford, July-October 2023

This collection comprises images from an archaeological watching brief at Castle Stream Mill Wall, St Peter's College, Oxford. This work was undertaken by Oxford Archaeology between July and October 2023. The L-shaped wall corresponds to the southern and western walls of a small building shown here on the 1878 Ordnance Survey Town Plan, facing directly onto the river. This building appears to post-date Hoggar's map of 1850. The watching brief showed that the standing wall was constructed in two main phases (albeit with other phases of repair) which probably partially survive from the mid-19th-century building. The watching brief exposed a section of brick floor which survived from the shed.
