Greywacke and volcanic rock samples from Robertson Bay area, North Victoria Land, Antarctica

A collection of 97 individual rock samples from the Robertson Bay area of North Victoria Land (between Cape Scott, Mount Minto, Cape Hallett and Protection Cove) were collected to improve understanding of the structure and development of the Transantarctic Mountains range and its geological relationships with the Southern Ocea, Ross Sea and New Zealand. These comprise 36 samples of basal Adare Volcanics lavas and breccias, 55 samples of Robertson Bay Group schistose greywackes and 6 samples of Admiralty Intrusives. The samples have been given the numbers P74787-74883 in the GNS Science rock collection (PETLAB). Ar-Ar dating of the Adare Volcanics and U-Th-He dating of the Robertson Bay Group samples was conducted in order to provide age constraints on the exhumation and tectonic evolution of the north end of the Transantarctic Mountains.
