Household and Corporate Deposit Dollarization and Term Structure in Ukraine's Banking System, 2008-2025

This dataset tracks household and corporate deposits held in Ukraine's banking system from 2008 to 2025, broken down by currency (local hryvnia vs foreign currency) and, for household deposits, by maturity (on-demand vs term deposits under and over one year). The dataset is designed to support research on deposit dollarization and depositor confidence, including during Ukraine's full-scale war (since February 2022). A blanket 100% state guarantee on household deposits was introduced for the duration of martial law, and this dataset allows that policy's association with deposit behaviour to be examined empirically: total household deposits grew from 794.2 billion UAH at the end of 2021 to 1,398.5 billion UAH at the end of 2025, with the foreign-currency share and the on-demand share both showing distinct shifts across the pre-war, early-war, and later-war years that are visible directly in the currency and maturity breakdowns. Two derived dollarization-ratio columns (foreign-currency deposits as a percentage of total deposits, for households and for corporates separately) are included for convenience; both are simple, transparent ratios of the underlying source figures, documented in the Dictionary sheet. METHODOLOGY & SOURCES Data were manually compiled from official statistics published by the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU). USD-equivalent figures use the official NBU exchange rate for the corresponding year. No adjustments beyond the two documented derived ratios were made.
