CRYO-EM STUDIES OF PROTEINS RELATED TO PATHOGENESIS OF TRANSMISSIBLE AND NON-TRANSMISSIBLE DISEASES, CELL DIVISION, SIGNALLING AND CHROMATIN

Following discussions within PIs of our MX-BAG (MX-2691), and in agreement with the ESRF User’s Office, we are submitting a CryoEM-BAG proposal including 9 PIs located in Italian institutions, which proposes to operate independently of the existing Italian CryoEM-BAG. The decision of creating a second Italian CryoEM-BAG emerges in consideration of the successful coordination and performance of the MX-BAG, and the scientific needs of the proposing PIs. We are confident that, through two distinct CryoEM-BAGs in Italy, beamtime allocation as well as scientific performance of the groups involved will improve.

In this CryoEM BAG, our groups focus on proteins and their complexes involved in a variety of processes, ranging from cell homeostasis (gene regulation, folding quality control, energy metabolism, signal transduction) to communication and surface recognition (interactions between cell adhesion molecules, weaving of the extracellular matrix, antigen-antibody interactions).
