Modern drug discovery programs are increasingly interested in natural products which contain complex chemical scaffolds. The Nazarov cyclisation can synthesise such scaffolds, but we currently lack catalysts to control for the desired 3-dimensional spatial configuration. In this medicinal chemistry thesis, we designed and synthesised novel catalysts for generating chemical structures that are synthetically challenging.
